Popular Bollywood actress and television personality Archana Puran Singh has been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a rare and chronic neurological condition characterized by severe, long-lasting nerve pain.

The news was shared by her son, Ayushmaan Sethi, via an emotional video on Instagram, detailing his mother’s harrowing journey with the condition.

According to Ayushmaan, the symptoms began following a wrist injury Archana sustained in 2025 during the filming of ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.’

What appeared to be a standard injury evolved into a permanent condition that has since severely impacted her hand.

Despite suffering from “excruciating pain,” Ayushmaan revealed that his mother showed immense resilience, continuing her work in films and web series,  and even launching her own YouTube channel at the age of 60.

What is CRPS? Understanding the “Suicide Disease”
Medical experts describe CRPS as a chronic pain condition that most often affects a limb after an injury. It is frequently referred to in medical circles as one of the most painful conditions known, sometimes dubbed the “suicide disease” due to the intensity of the suffering.

The central nervous system fails to regulate pain signals correctly. The brain and spinal cord continue to send exaggerated pain messages even after the original physical wound has healed.

Patients often describe the pain as a constant burning or “pins and needles” sensation.

Even a light touch or minor changes in temperature can trigger intense agony.

Common symptoms include swelling, changes in skin color, excessive sweating, stiffness, and muscle weakness in the affected area.

While doctors state that CRPS is not life-threatening, they emphasize that it is “life-altering.”

There is currently no known cure, but early intervention and specialized therapy can help manage the symptoms.

The revelation has sparked a wave of support from the film industry and fans alike, praising Archana for her bravery in maintaining her iconic cheerful persona on screen, most notably on The Kapil Sharma Show, while battling such a debilitating silent illness behind the scenes
