A major development has emerged regarding the provision of solar systems for the public, either free of cost or on easy instalments.
The package will include inverters and other essential equipment.
According to media reports, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide solar systems to 120,000 deserving households in the merged districts, either free or on affordable instalment plans.
Each household will receive a 2-kilowatt solar system, complete with an inverter and other necessary accessories.
Under the scheme, the estimated cost per solar system ranges between Rs255,000 and Rs300,000, while the total cost of the project is expected to be Rs13 billion, which will be borne by the provincial government.
The solar project will be implemented in Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, North Waziristan and South Waziristan, and will be executed under a financial model developed by the Bank of Khyber.
The government has proposed two options for beneficiaries:
In the recoverable option, users will pay approximately Rs8,300 per month for 36 months.
In the non-recoverable option, no payment will be required from beneficiaries.
The selection of beneficiaries will be carried out by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, vendors will be selected by the Bank of Khyber, while technical support will be provided by PEDO.
