The Water Corporation has announced a temporary shutdown of the old Pipri Pumping Station for scheduled maintenance, which is expected to disrupt water supply in several areas of the city, according to ARY News.
A spokesperson said the old Pipri Pumping Station will remain non-operational for four days, from January 10 to January 13, while essential repair and maintenance work is carried out. During this period, water supply from the old pumping facility will be completely suspended.
The corporation clarified that the new Pipri Pumping Station will continue to function normally and provide water. However, despite its operation, residents in multiple localities are likely to face water shortages due to the temporary closure of the old station.
Areas expected to be affected include Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, and Model Town. Additionally, the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain closed throughout the four-day maintenance period.
The Water Corporation has urged residents of the affected neighborhoods to make necessary arrangements and store water in advance until regular supply is fully restored.
Separately, K-Electric (KE) has also announced its annual transmission network maintenance schedule. The planned work, which takes place during winter, is essential for maintaining the performance and reliability of high-voltage equipment supplying electricity across Karachi.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana stated that such preventive maintenance is conducted every year, with around 14 out of 74 grid stations undergoing maintenance. He added that KE will strive to ensure power supply through alternative arrangements during this period.
