The courtroom drama Haq (2025), starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, has surged to the top of Netflix’s trending charts in India following its digital premiere on January 2, 2026.
The film has found renewed popularity on OTT after a modest theatrical run that began on November 7, 2025.

Directed by Suparn S. Varma, Haq is a fictionalised retelling inspired by the landmark 1985 Shah Bano case. The story follows Shazia Bano, portrayed by Yami Gautam, an uneducated homemaker whose life is turned upside down when her husband, prominent lawyer Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi), takes a second wife and divorces her through triple talaq.
The film traces Shazia’s fight for maintenance and dignity, transforming her personal struggle into a broader national debate on women’s rights, gender justice, and constitutional reform. Sheeba Chaddha appears as Shazia’s lawyer, alongside Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, and Rahul Mittra in supporting roles.
Although Haq earned an estimated ₹21–30 crore at the box office against a reported budget of ₹40 crore, it was widely appreciated by critics for its strong performances and sensitive handling of complex social issues. Its strong showing on Netflix has now given the film a second lease of life, introducing it to a wider audience and reigniting conversations around its central themes.
