The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday continued its winning streak, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining over 2,600 points to cross the 185,000 level.
At close, the benchmark index settled at 185,062.10, up 2653.87 points or 1.45%.
Buying interest emerged across major sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, fertiliser, oil and gas exploration, OMCs, power generation, and refineries. Heavyweight index stocks such as ARL, HUBCO, MARI, POL, PSO, SNGPL, SSGC, HBL, MCB, MEBL, NBP, and UBL all closed in positive territory.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange began the New Year on a strong footing on Monday, as aggressive buying, led primarily by local institutional investors, especially mutual funds, sparked a broad-based rally and lifted the market to fresh record highs.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index jumped 3,373.31 points, or 1.88%, to settle at 182,408.24.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee gained ground against the US dollar, appreciating 0.08% during early interbank trading on Tuesday. By 10am, the local currency was trading at 279.88, up by Rs0.22 from Monday’s close of 280.10.
