Begum Khaleda Zia, the first female prime minister of Bangladesh and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was honored with a state funeral in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
She passed away on Tuesday, December 30, at the age of 80 after a prolonged illness.

The funeral prayer was held at 2:00 PM local time on Manik Mia Avenue, located in front of the National Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban) complex.
Following the prayers, she was laid to rest with full state honors beside her husband, former President Ziaur Rahman, at his mausoleum in Zia Udyan, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, declared a three-day national mourning period and a public holiday on Wednesday to facilitate the proceedings.
