The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated an investigation into a well-known Lahore-based film and television actress over suspected undeclared expenditure.
According to officials, approximately Rs 67.7 million was spent on the actress’s wedding earlier this year, an amount that does not appear to have been declared in her tax returns or wealth statements.
The Lifestyle Monitoring Cell identified discrepancies between the actress’s declared income and her lifestyle, including frequent international travel and the launch of new business ventures.
The FBR’s preliminary assessment is based on a comparison of declared income, lifestyle indicators, and wedding-related expenditure reflected in material shared on social media.
Authorities have proposed a detailed audit of the actress’s tax affairs covering the tax years from 2020 to 2025. This review will examine sources of income, bank accounts, credit card usage, and other potential income streams, including earnings from advertisements or social media activities.
Under Section 111 of the Income Tax Ordinance, a notice may be issued requiring the actress to explain the sources of the excessive expenditure. If the explanations are found to be unsatisfactory, the amount may be treated as concealed income and added to her taxable income.
The investigation highlights the FBR’s continued focus on monitoring undeclared wealth among high-profile taxpayers and ensuring compliance with tax laws.
