The Muhajir community across Pakistan, including Karachi, is celebrating its Cultural Day with great enthusiasm.
According to media reports, Muhajir Cultural Day began in 2021 to honour the community that chose Pakistan after the 1947 partition of the subcontinent. The celebration has grown in popularity and scale each year.
Express newspaper reports that the idea to celebrate Muhajir culture was first proposed by some students at Karachi University. In recent years, political organisations associated with the Muhajir identity, as well as other political, religious, and social groups, have also recognised 24 December as Muhajir Cultural Day.

This year, celebrations started several days earlier.
On 20 December 2025, a poetry recital and cultural gathering were held at Markaz-e-Islami Ayesha Manzil, organised by young members of the community.
Political leaders, including Raouf Nagori, General Secretary of PPP Karachi, attended the event.
Young participants wore traditional attire, such as kurta and pajama, to highlight their cultural heritage. Similar events were also organised in countries including Oman, the UAE, Australia, the USA, the UK, and Canada.
On 24 December, three major events were held in Karachi.
A central rally moved from Karimabad to a local exhibition, while a literary evening was organised at the Governor House. In Korangi No. 2½, youth group “Team Muhajir” hosted another cultural celebration.

Thousands of young people participated in the Karimabad rally, holding white flags marked with “Muhajir” in red. Representatives from other communities, including the Pakhtun Rabita Council and the Gujjar community, also joined to show solidarity.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, PPP Karachi division leaders, and other notable figures sent congratulatory messages, honouring the descendants of those who made sacrifices during Pakistan’s creation.

Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Chairman of MQM Pakistan, and Afaq Ahmed, head of the Muhajir Qaumi Movement, also issued messages, emphasising that Muhajir youth will continue to contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity.
