Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has been awarded Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence, in recognition of his outstanding military service and contributions to bilateral cooperation, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir met Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, during an official visit to the Kingdom.
The meeting focused on issues of shared interest, including regional security dynamics, defence and military cooperation, strategic coordination, and emerging geopolitical challenges. Both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted, historic, and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The prestigious honor was conferred under a royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Field Marshal Munir is also a recipient of Pakistan’s top military decorations, including the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) and the Hilal-e-Jurat.
ISPR said that the award acknowledges Field Marshal Munir’s leadership, his role in strengthening defence collaboration and institutional linkages between the two countries, and his contributions to regional peace, stability, and counter-terrorism efforts.
The Saudi leadership praised his professionalism and strategic vision, while Field Marshal Munir expressed gratitude for the honor, calling it a reflection of the enduring and close bonds between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
