The body of a 25-year-old woman bearing signs of torture was recovered from a house in Karachi’s Surjani Town area.
Police said the victim, identified as Komal, was killed after her former fiancé, Rashid, struck her on the head with an iron pipe.
According to investigators, the suspect had rented the house 12 days ago, and the victim had been living with him for the past three days.
Police said Rashid had travelled to Dubai for work after their engagement. Komal later married another man and had recently filed a case seeking khula (divorce) from her husband.
After the murder, the suspect reportedly called his mother to inform her that he had killed Komal and asked her to leave before police arrived, officials said.
The victim’s parents live near the crime scene and were visiting relatives at the time of the incident. Police have launched a search for the suspect, Rashid.
Last week, police arrested a father and son in connection with a suspected planned mass suicide that resulted in the deaths of three women at Harmain Residency in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Iqbal and his son Yaseen are in custody following the deaths of 52-year-old Samina, Iqbal’s wife; their 19-year-old daughter Samreen; and 22-year-old daughter-in-law Maha. The bodies of the victims were found on Sunday in the family’s second-floor apartment in Block 1.
