Internal rifts in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have deepened, with tensions flaring among party groups over the political committee, missing funds, and Bar Council elections, alongside growing doubts about each other’s sincerity and intentions, especially concerning Imran Khan’s directives.
According to a local media report citing party sources, PTI founder Imran Khan had not instructed the formation of a new political committee, but had only asked for minor changes.
The report, citing party sources, said that Salman Akram Raja was asked why he contested the Bar Council elections while serving as secretary general. Meanwhile, senior political leader Qazi Anwar had resigned because of the secretary general, as Salman Akram had placed his name at the top of the list.
The report also mentioned that party groups are concerned over the disappearance of more than 300 million PKR in party funds. This amount had been sent by overseas supporters to PTI for the legal fees of founder Imran Khan and other detained party members.
The whereabouts of the substantial 300 million PKR sent by overseas supporters remain unknown, while parliamentarians are now being asked to contribute 100,000 PKR each per month. They have also questioned which NGO received the 300 million PKR and who is responsible for managing it.
Some parliamentarians have allegedly vowed that they will not provide funds until an accounting of the old funds is presented.
It also emerged that earlier Ali Amin Gandapur, as Chief Minister, had been covering the legal expenses of Imran Khan and other detained members. The flow of funds stopped after he left the office of Chief Minister.
