A speeding water tanker on Friday killed a 12-year-old boy in Korangi’s 100 Quarters area, police said.
A tragic accident occurred near the main market in Bangali Para when Farhan, a young madrassa student and the youngest of eight siblings, was fatally injured after coming under the rear wheels of a water tanker.
The child had been returning a rented bicycle after playing in a nearby ground when the slow-moving tanker struck him. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre by an Edhi ambulance, but doctors pronounced him dead.
Residents blamed ongoing road encroachments for narrowing the street and creating hazardous conditions.
According to Zaman Town SHO Nafeesur Rehman, some locals attempted to torch the tanker in anger, but police intervened, arrested the driver, identified as Noor Hussain Shah, and impounded the vehicle. Investigators are verifying his license, the tanker’s documentation, and CCTV footage. The driver, now in custody, maintains he was not speeding and says the bicycle collided with his truck. An FIR has been registered as inquiries continue.
In a similar incident in October, a speeding water tanker crashed into a Qingqi rickshaw in Orangi Town No. 1, killing a 10-year-old boy and injuring a passerby.
