The Pantone Color Institute has announced ‘Cloud Dancer’ as its definitive Color of the Year for 2026, selecting a familiar yet nuanced shade intended to promote calm and symbolize new starts amidst global shifts.
‘Cloud Dancer’ is a sophisticated, not-quite-white hue characterized by its unique blend of both cool and warm undertones. This complexity deliberately sets it apart from traditional, stark white. According to experts, the color was chosen for its ability to stir feelings of honesty and authenticity.

Laurie Pressman, the institute’s vice president, who has been predicting color trends since 1999, explained the distinction to CNN. She noted that bright, isolating white speaks to “isolationism” and is perceived as “cold.”
In contrast, ‘Cloud Dancer’ draws its inspiration from the natural, soft grey-white tones of a feather. This organic foundation is meant to provide a sense of comfort and stability.
The selection underscores a cultural desire for reassurance and transparency, suggesting that this gentle, multifaceted shade of near-white will dominate fashion, interior design, and media aesthetics throughout the coming year. Its ubiquity across industries reflects a collective yearning for subtle transition and genuine connection.
