A massive wildfire continues to rage through the dense and picturesque forests of the Neelum Valley, destroying wildlife habitats and burning rare medicinal plants to ashes.
According to details, the flames have engulfed several mountain slopes in the region. The forest fire is rapidly consuming valuable trees and rare herbs that are regarded as the natural identity of the valley.
Layers of dry leaves, grass, and the parched terrain are further intensifying the blaze.
Wildlife in the affected areas is also suffering severe losses. Birds’ nests and mountain animals’ shelters have been destroyed, while plants, herbs, and small creatures are being burned to cinders. Eyewitnesses say the fire has been spreading steadily for the past four days, while local residents have begun efforts to extinguish it on a self-help basis.
However, due to the rugged terrain, lack of resources, and absence of trained firefighting teams, controlling the blaze remains extremely challenging. Meanwhile, government authorities have so far failed to take any effective action to tackle the situation.
A few months ago, during the monsoon season, floods had already washed away timber worth billions. If such incidents continue, the region may soon be deprived of its remaining natural assets.
