Despite the passage of 12 hours, the child remains missing, and rescue efforts have been hampered by intense water flow and public protests.
Rescue officials reported significant difficulty in the search due to the rapid current and a lack of heavy machinery provided by government institutions. They stated that excavation and diver searches have so far yielded no results.
The tragic incident sparked outrage among residents, who blocked University Road near NIPA Chowrangi and Hassan Square.

The family alleged that no government official or administrator had arrived at the scene since the previous night, and the heavy machinery they arranged privately was forced to leave due to the angry mob’s protest.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has ordered a probe by the Water Corporation, assuring action against any official found guilty of negligence.
He expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged the parents’ pain, stating the search continues and pledging full administrative support.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad contradicted the family and protesters, claiming rescue teams and machinery were present, but the efforts were disrupted by “miscreant elements” with political motives.
Ibrahim’s father, Nabil, recounted the devastating moment, stating his only child slipped out of his hand and fell into the uncovered manhole near where his motorbike was parked.
The Water Corporation, however, issued a statement clarifying that the site of the incident is not part of their system, as neither a sewerage line nor a Water Corporation manhole is present there.
