Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has leveled strong criticism against Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, alleging that the mayor has taken control of all municipal institutions.

Speaking at a press conference alongside JI Karachi Chief Munim Zafar, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman claimed that the people of Karachi are being humiliated in the name of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which he called deeply flawed. He demanded that the BRT project be immediately terminated and University Road be restored to its original condition.
The JI chief asserted that corruption has become a significant enterprise within the Sindh government, and its patrons are known to all.
Addressing the issue of land grabbing, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman announced that JI has established a cell to resist illegal occupation of property and will stand in solidarity with any citizen whose home is unlawfully seized, referencing a specific case of alleged land grabbing in Gulshan-e-Iqbal using fake documents.
He linked the fight against land grabbers, including those occupying agricultural land and riverbeds for fake societies, to JI’s larger goal of ‘system change’ (badal do nizam).
Furthermore, he accused MQM-Pakistan of staging a ‘friendly match’ (nura kushti) and deceiving the public, citing their cooperation with the government when major institutions like KDA and MDA were allegedly being taken over.
Munim Zafar condemned the tragic incident of the three-year-old boy who fell into an open manhole near NIPA Chowrangi, pointing to the deteriorating infrastructure where “children are falling into manholes and dying,” and noting that the child’s body could not be recovered even after 12 hours.
The JI leadership warned that the government is responsible for the deteriorating conditions and promised that the citizens of Karachi will not be left to fend for themselves.
