Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two individuals, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and Zahid Ali, for their involvement in organizing and promoting betting on cricket matches.
According to details, the suspects are linked with international gambling networks. FIA’s Anti-Corruption Wing in Islamabad has registered cases against them.
Court documents reveal that Zahid Ali, a former professional cricketer and umpire, had been actively involved in cricket up to 2021 and officiated at the district level.
He is also accused of participating in online cricket betting and maintaining contact with international women cricketers, including players from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, and other African countries.
Zahid Ali reportedly presented himself as a professional umpire and was connected with individuals through a WhatsApp group named “World Cricket Law.”
He has already received notices from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The suspects are further accused of human smuggling for betting purposes and involvement in creating fake educational documents.
