Indian actor Diljit Dosanjh did not secure the prestigious Best Performance by an Actor award at the 53rd International Emmy Awards ceremony held on Monday, November 24, 2025, in New York City.

Diljit was nominated for his acclaimed portrayal of the late Punjabi music star in Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix biopic, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila.’ The award for Best Actor ultimately went to Oriol Pla of Spain for his role in Yo, Adicto (I, Addict).

‘Chamkila’ Biopic Also Falls Short
The film itself, Amar Singh Chamkila, was nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but lost the title to the UK production, Lost Boys & Fairies.

Other nominees in Diljit’s category included David Mitchell (Ludwig) and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude).
Red Carpet Presence and Film Recognition
Despite the losses, Diljit Dosanjh made a memorable appearance on the red carpet, greeting photographers with his signature namaste while dressed in a glittering jacket and his classic black turban. He was accompanied by director Imtiaz Ali and executives from Netflix India.

Released in April 2024, the biopic, which also features Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot and music by A.R. Rahman, received critical acclaim for its authentic depiction of Chamkila’s life, his controversial lyrics, and his tragic end.
Although they did not win, the nominations for both the film and Diljit Dosanjh underscore the growing international recognition and reach of Indian content and talent.
