The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the draft of the 27th constitutional amendment. Today, the Prime Minister presided over the meeting via video link from the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, during which Attorney General Mansoor Awan briefed the participants on the draft amendment.
The federal cabinet meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, was attended by Khawaja Asif, Azhar Kiani, Rana Tanveer, Asrangzeb Khichi, Rana Mubashir, Aun Chaudhry, Dr. Shahzra Mansab, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, and Malik Rasheed Ahmed.
In addition, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan also attended the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House.
During the cabinet meeting, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan briefed the cabinet on the 27th constitutional amendment draft. After reviewing the proposals of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the draft was approved.
On the other hand, the Senate session will also be held today. Sources say that it is likely that the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment will be presented as a supplementary agenda in the Senate session.
A report citing sources claims that the constitutional amendment bill may be referred to the Senate’s Law and Justice Committee. The Senate session may continue on Sunday as well, during which the draft will be discussed. The Senate is likely to approve the constitutional amendment on Monday.
