Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired the 30th cabinet meeting on Wednesday, and there was a proposal submitted to increase the electric bus fares in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
However, the Punjab government has rejected the proposal and intact fare at a subsidized flat rate of Rs.20 per ride for the general public.
The flat rate per ride is set at Rs. 20.
Students, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals can use the electric buses free of cost upon showing valid identification (student ID, CNIC, or disability card).
The buses offer free Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, and CCTV camera surveillance.
Moreover, the cabinet approved grants to the Punjab Transport Company to manage the subsidies required for operating the service.
The government is actively expanding the electric bus network across the province.
A total of 1,100 new electric buses are set to arrive in batches by December 2025, with services planned for cities including Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
