The Sindh Department of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics has extended the deadline for replacing vehicles’ Ajrak-design number plates by two months.
Earlier, the set deadline was October 31, 2025. The department has issued an official notification according to which citizens can now replace their vehicle number plates with new plates equipped with security features until December 31. Previously, the Sindh government had also extended this decision on August 4.
The latest decision was made on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who issued these directions during a meeting with Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
During the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto was informed that the purpose of implementing modern number plates is to improve the security system across the province.
Minister for Excise Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that the issuance of these number plates with new security features will significantly improve the security situation in the province.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instructed the extension of the deadline in view of public convenience so that citizens can easily obtain the new number plates.
During the meeting, the provincial minister also briefed the PPP chairman regarding the performance and attendance of the party members in the Sindh Assembly.
He further informed that the Narcotics Department has seized drugs worth seven billion rupees during operations against narcotics across the province.
It is noteworthy that the Sindh government’s decision to implement new Ajrak-design number plates for all registered vehicles has also created difficulties for citizens.
Citizens had protested over long waiting times, delayed issuance, and strict enforcement of e-challans. According to the government’s stance, this step has been taken to curb vehicle theft and to improve the tax collection system.
