The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) reported a record after-tax profit of Rs23.3 billion for the third quarter of CY2025, translating into earnings per share (EPS) of Rs10.83 — a sharp increase from Rs3.1 billion in the same quarter last year.
This pushed the nine-month profit (9MCY25) to Rs66.4 billion, up nearly 16 times year-on-year, mainly supported by stronger spreads, reduced interest expenses, and higher non-funded income.
Net interest income surged 74 percent year-on-year to Rs60.7 billion in 3QCY25, driven by improved spreads and a 46 percent decline in interest costs. Consequently, net interest margins (NIMs) climbed to 4.04 percent — their highest level since 3QCY15.
Non-funded income rose 24 percent year-on-year to Rs6.6 billion, supported by robust capital gains and stable foreign exchange income, which edged up 1 percent to Rs1.2 billion.
Operating expenses increased slightly by 1 percent to Rs31 billion. However, the cost-to-income ratio improved significantly to 40 percent, compared to 64 percent in 3QCY24, indicating strong operating efficiency.
During the quarter, NBP also recorded a reversal of provisions worth Rs3.9 billion, contrasting with a charge of Rs2.9 billion a year earlier.
On the balance sheet side, the bank maintained solid financial stability, with deposits reaching Rs4.2 trillion as of September 2025.
