Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has seized 25 kilograms of silver, valued at around Rs 12 million ($40,000), from a passenger bus during an anti-smuggling operation at the Mochko Check Post in Karachi.
The precious metal was discovered hidden inside a passenger’s luggage during a routine inspection. According to the FBR, the suspect was unable to present valid import or purchase documents, confirming that the silver had been smuggled.
Located in Karachi’s Keamari district, the Mochko Check Post is known as a key route for criminal networks trafficking goods, narcotics, and weapons into the city.
The FBR said the silver was confiscated under the Customs Act of 1969, and the passenger has been detained for questioning. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source, transportation route, and intended recipients of the contraband, as well as to identify other individuals involved.
Officials noted that rising global silver prices, driven by industrial demand and investor interest, have made precious metals a growing target for smugglers.
