Rare lenticular cloud formation over Quetta was observed in the early morning of Oct 28, 2025, leaving people amazed and curious about the phenomenon and its causes.
Citizens reported the sighting of beautiful multicolored halo of lights during Fajr (dawn) hours from different areas.
Several social media accounts suggested that the clouds could be the result of a missile test or some new technology experiment by the military.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department clarified in a post that the sighting was due to the formation of lenticular clouds, observed above Koh-e-Murdar in the morning.

They further explained that the clouds appeared before sunrise, remained visible for about 20 minutes, and disappeared shortly before the sun rose.
It is worth mentioning that lenticular clouds are lens-shaped or orographic wave clouds that form when air is stable and flows over mountainous or hilly regions at different altitudes in the same or similar direction.
“These strange and unnatural-looking clouds sometimes form against the wind direction over mountains. They closely resemble flying saucers often depicted in science fiction, and in reality, lenticular clouds are considered one of the most common explanations for UFO (unidentified flying object) sightings worldwide.”
