After 15 hours of talks between the delegations of Pakistan and the Taliban in Istanbul, the Taliban have handed over their final draft. The draft emphasizes non-violation of Afghanistan’s land and air space and preventing the use of Pakistan’s territory by “anti-Taliban elements.”
According to Afghan media, citing sources, the Taliban’s final draft also proposes the establishment of a four-party mechanism to ensure monitoring of any ceasefire violations and the exchange of information.
According to sources, the second round of talks, which began yesterday, is continuing today in the presence of mediators, and it is expected that the outcome of this phase will shape a final agreement under the framework of the Doha ceasefire accord.
Pakistan insists that the central point of the talks should be decisive and irreversible action by Kabul against Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other groups responsible for cross-border attacks.
It is worth noting here that the clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan last month resulted in heavy casualties. Both countries, being Muslim nations, now appear willing to agree on a ceasefire.
