The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a sharp decline on Friday, shedding nearly 1,300 points as investors opted for profit-taking following a strong rally earlier in the week.
At the close of trading, the benchmark KSE-100 Index settled at 163,304.13 points, down by 1,286.28 points or 0.78%.
Selling pressure was notable across major sectors, including commercial banks, fertiliser, oil and gas exploration, oil marketing companies (OMCs), and power generation. Heavyweight stocks such as MARI, POL, SSGC, HBL, MCB, MEBL, and NBP all ended in negative territory.
This decline followed Thursday’s steep drop, when persistent selling across key sectors dragged the index below the 165,000-point level. The KSE-100 Index had plunged 1,962.87 points, or 1.18%, to close at 164,590.41.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee appreciated slightly against the US dollar during Friday’s early trading session, gaining 0.1%. Around 10 a.m., the local currency was trading at 280.75 in the interbank market, up by Re0.28 against the greenback.
