Senior Islamabad Police officer, SP Industrial Area Adeel Akbar, died by suicide on Thursday evening after allegedly shooting himself near Serena Chowk.
According to reports, he used his service pistol to end his life. He was rushed to PIMS Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
A spokesperson for Islamabad Police said that SP Adeel Akbar was traveling toward his office via Constitution Avenue when the incident occurred inside his vehicle. The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Sources revealed that the officer had been suffering from severe dengue fever for several days and had requested medical leave, but his application was not approved. Despite his deteriorating health, he continued to perform his duties.
It was further reported that SP Adeel Akbar had become increasingly disheartened by the attitude of senior officials and the frequent late-night meetings that often lasted until midnight or later.
Adeel Akbar had initially passed the CSS exam as part of the 43rd Common and joined the Office Management Group, but his passion for police service led him to retake the exam and later join the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) through the 46th Common, where he performed with distinction.
During his career, he served as SP Quetta, Ziarat, and Zhob, and in August 2025, he was posted as SP Industrial Area, Islamabad.
Sources also disclosed that his promotion had been delayed for two years due to a departmental inquiry, although he was eventually cleared of all allegations.
In a tragic twist, he reportedly received an approval letter for a scholarship in the United States to pursue a master’s degree earlier on the same day the incident occurred.
SP Adeel Akbar hailed from Gujranwala, was married, and leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.
