Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday announced a Rs 55 billion additional relief package for the small farmers of the province.
Addressing a press conference, the CM said that the government would provide more and more relief and incentives to the farmers so that they cultivate more wheat crops. “If we will not provide support to the farmers for producing wheat, they will opt for other crops,” he added.
CM Shah said that the minimum official price of the wheat must be at least Rs. 4000 for 40 kg. “We thank the federal government for listening to our points of view on the wheat price issue.”
Shah said that currently there are 2 million tonnes of wheat in the province, both in the government and private sector stocks, and said that the government would provide free fertiliser to the small farmers under the relief package across the province.
The Chief Minister said that under the constitution of Pakistan, a ban cannot be imposed on the transportation of wheat from one province to another. He said that new crops of the wheat will come in the market in March.
