The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association has announced a protest demonstration today against the alleged illegal behaviour of customs officials in Karachi.
The demonstration, led by the association’s chairman Mir Shams Shahwani, will be held at Vita Chowrangi, Korangi, today, Tuesday, October 21, at 3 pm, in which a large number of oil tanker owners and transporters from different cities will participate.
According to the organisers, the protest aims to raise voices against those customs officers who allegedly demand bribes, illegally stop vehicles and harass transporters.
The transporter community said that if this behaviour is not stopped, the scope of the protest may spread to the entire country. Evidence of alleged extortion and misuse of power by the customs will also be brought to light on this occasion. Customs officials have yet to respond to the allegation levelled against them by the transporters.
It should be noted that the Korangi Industrial Area may face a severe traffic jam today in the rush hours after 3 pm due to the announced demonstration.
