The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of the national One Day International (ODI) team.
The left-arm fast bowler will lead Pakistan in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled from November 4 to 8 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
According to the PCB, the decision was finalized during a meeting held in Islamabad, attended by Head Coach Mike Hesson, Director High Performance Aaqib Javed, and members of the national selection committee.
Shaheen Afridi, one of Pakistan’s premier fast bowlers, has so far represented the country in 66 ODIs and 92 T20Is, taking a total of 249 wickets across both formats. In 32 Test matches, he has claimed 120 wickets.
Earlier this year, Shaheen also captained Pakistan in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.
It is worth noting that Mohammad Rizwan previously served as captain of Pakistan’s ODI side.
