In a tragic protest against alleged police mistreatment, more than 24 transgender individuals attempted suicide by ingesting poison in Indore, India.
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where a viral video on social media shows approximately 24 transgender individuals consuming a toxic substance, believed to be phenyl, simultaneously.
Dr. Basant Kumar Nangwal, Superintendent-in-Charge at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, told reporters, “We have received 25 transgender individuals at our hospital. They claim to have consumed phenyl together, but this cannot be immediately confirmed.”
When asked about the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya stated, “Only after investigation will it be clear what substance was used and what the motive behind it was.”

Reports suggest the transgender individuals were protesting for justice following an alleged sexual assault against one of their community members. Frustrated by the lack of police action, they resorted to this extreme step.
All affected individuals were promptly shifted to the hospital, where doctors have declared their condition to be out of danger.
Police say the search for the accused is ongoing, and further action will be taken after arrests are made.
Following this incident, transgender communities across various Indian cities have intensified their demands for justice.
