A dispute between the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and a private university has become an obstacle in the registration and issuance of a license for Pakistan’s first transgender doctor, Dr. Sarah Gill.
According to details, the Sindh High Court, while hearing Dr. Sarah Gill’s petition against the non-issuance of her PMDC registration and license, has issued notices to PMDC and other parties, seeking their replies by November 7.
During the hearing in the Sindh High Court, the petitioner’s lawyer stated that the petitioner completed her MBBS from Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) in 2021; however, JMDC has now been converted into Sohail University.
According to Sohail University, the university was previously affiliated with the University of Karachi, but it has now become an independent university and therefore does not have access to the PMDC portal.
Updating students’ records is the university’s responsibility; however, due to a dispute between the institutions over responsibility, the petitioner’s license could not be issued, according to PMDC.
