A former conductor of the Pink Bus service brought operations to a halt at the Gulshan-e-Hadeed depot on Wednesday in a dramatic protest over her dismissal.
In the viral video, the woman, identified as Sanam, was reportedly fired a month ago and claims she was terminated without any valid reason.
Taking matters into her own hands, Sanam blocked buses from leaving the depot, resulting in a temporary disruption of the female-only public transport service.
Speaking to reporters, Sanam said she is the sole breadwinner of her family and has been demanding justice for weeks. “No one is listening. I’ve knocked on every door, but I’m still unemployed. I’ll continue this protest until I get my job back,” she said.
She also leveled serious allegations against the depot supervisor, accusing him of demanding bribes in exchange for reinstating her position.
Staff at the depot appeared confused and ill-prepared to deal with the protest, further contributing to delays in service. Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the incident or the allegations raised.
The Pink Bus service, launched to provide safe and reliable transportation for women in Karachi, was partially disrupted due to the standoff.
