Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has confirmed the discovery of new gas reserves in Kotri Block No. 1, District Jamshoro.
According to a notification issued by the company to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the discovery was made during the drilling of a well named Barkhi-1.
Details reveal that drilling began on July 21, after which the well was dug to a depth of 3,392 feet, where the presence of hydrocarbons was confirmed.
During a complete integrity test, the well initially produced 1.5 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Acid stimulation treatment was carried out to improve the gas flow, after which production increased to 5.5 million cubic feet per day, according to the company. At present, the well is supplying gas at a pressure exceeding 460 pounds per square inch.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited further stated that preliminary and research work has also begun for the exploration of potential gas reserves at other sites in the Kotri North Block, marking another promising development in the discovery of local energy resources in Pakistan.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) had also announced the discovery of additional oil and gas reserves in Khairpur District, Sindh.
