For the past few days, a claim has been circulating on social media that the entry of unmarried couples has been banned in the famous tourist destination of Naran in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and that marriage certificates are being requested from couples arriving at police checkpoints.
This news reached thousands of users as soon as it was posted on social media. A post on Facebook shared a picture of the alleged signboard that read, “Naran: Marriage certificate required for entry.” This post was uploaded on September 27 and received more than 30,000 views, 3,600 comments, and 1,200 shares.
Several users on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) also shared the same image, claiming that “the entry of unmarried couples has been banned in Naran.” However, Mansehra Police has categorically denied all these claims, calling them completely baseless.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur said that there is no such ban in Naran. According to him, “These reports are misleading; all tourists visiting Naran are welcome.” The Mansehra Police also issued a clarification post on its official Facebook page, stating that all claims regarding the signboard and marriage certificate circulating on social media are fabricated and false.
Similarly, Assistant Commissioner of Tehsil Balakot Muhammad Nadir also confirmed that no official directive has been issued in this regard. According to him, the police only check vehicles under the standard operating procedures (SOPs). As a result, it has become clear that the news of a marriage certificate being sought for entry into Naran is fake and fabricated.
The authorities have appealed to the citizens not to believe such false information circulating on social media and to rely only on verified information from official sources.
