Brazilian social media influencer Adair Mendes Dutra Junior, also known as Junior Dutra, has died at the age of 31 after experiencing severe complications following a “fox eye” cosmetic procedure.
His death has sparked concerns about the safety of such procedures and the qualifications of practitioners performing them.
Dutra underwent the fox eye surgery in March, which aims to lift the outer corners of the eyes for a more elongated appearance.
He later reported developing a serious facial infection and experienced symptoms including swelling, bruising, redness, and difficulty breathing.

In September, just a month before his death, Dutra gave an interview stating that his health was deteriorating and that he had been frequently hospitalized for post-procedure complications.
On October 3, Dutra was rushed to a public hospital in São Paulo after experiencing severe respiratory distress, where he later died.
The influencer had reportedly filed a criminal complaint against the celebrity dentist who performed the procedure, Fernando Garbi, alleging illegal medical practice, fraud, and serious bodily harm.
Garbi, through his lawyer, has denied any connection to Dutra’s death and is reportedly considering legal action against those making accusations.
Dutra’s close friend told Brazilian media that Dutra was being looked after by a dermatologist for a persistent infection before his death.
The official cause of Junior Dutra’s death is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. His death has prompted discussions about stricter regulations for cosmetic procedures and the importance of verifying the qualifications of practitioners.
