The Punjab government has restored the jail trial of the GHQ attack case against PTI founder Imran Khan, which pertains to the events of May 9.
Imran’s arrest on May 9, 2023 sparked violent protests across the country, during which state buildings and military installations, including the GHQ, were torched and vandalised.
According to the notification issued by the provincial government, the trial will now be conducted inside Adiala Jail, with the next hearing expected to take place tomorrow.
Following the decision, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail has requested additional security from the Rawalpindi Police to ensure safety during the proceedings.
It may be recalled that the Punjab government had earlier transferred the trial on September 15, and Imran Khan was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi via video link.
However, the provincial government has now withdrawn the previous transfer notification, reinstating the jail trial.
