Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Party has formally approved the nomination of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
According to party sources, the opposition will submit the names of both nominees to the National Assembly and Senate secretariats on Tuesday.
The decision follows instructions from PTI founder and jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, who approved the appointments earlier today.
Confirming the development, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the incumbent chairman of PTI, said the nominations were finalised during a joint parliamentary party meeting held to discuss the party’s legislative strategy and coordination between the two houses of Parliament.
The move comes as PTI seeks to consolidate its position within the Parliament and strengthen its role as the main opposition force amid ongoing political tensions with the ruling coalition.
