NEW DELHI: Two foreign coaches were injured after being attacked by stray dogs during the ongoing World Para Athletics Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The incident took place on Friday morning while teams were preparing for warm-up sessions.
The injured were identified as Dennis Mwanzu, a fencing coach from Kenya, and Meiko Otomatsu, an assistant coach from Japan. Mwanzu sustained a leg injury from dog bites, while both coaches were left bleeding and visibly shaken.
Medical staff rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they received emergency treatment. Their current condition has not yet been disclosed by officials.
Championship organizers and authorities have not released a formal statement regarding the incident, nor have they announced any immediate measures to prevent such attacks inside the stadium premises.
The World Para Athletics Championship 2025, which began on September 27, is set to conclude on October 5.
The tournament has drawn more than 1,000 athletes from across the globe, competing in a wide range of track and field events.
