The federal cabinet has sanctioned a Rs. 10.8 billion ($39 million) relief package to ease the financial burden on electricity consumers in regions devastated by the recent floods.
Triggered by intense monsoon rains and glacial melt in August and September 2025, the floods wreaked havoc across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, destroying homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure.
Under the scheme, domestic electricity users in officially declared flood-affected areas will have their August 2025 electricity bills fully waived. Those who already paid their bills will receive refunds through upcoming billing cycles.
For commercial, industrial, and agricultural consumers, the government has offered bill deferrals instead of waivers. Their August bills will be spread across seven installments, payable between December 2025 and June 2026, providing relief for struggling businesses and farmers.
To implement the package, the cabinet approved the immediate release of Rs. 10.8 billion as an advance subsidy to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G). Of this, Rs. 10.4 billion is allocated for bill waivers and Rs. 464 million for managing deferred payments.
Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to support flood-affected families and enterprises in rebuilding their lives as the country embarks on the long road to recovery.
