In a major push to enforce traffic laws, Karachi has rolled out a strict new penalty structure targeting unlicensed drivers. Under the updated schedule, motorcyclists caught without a valid license will be fined Rs20,000, car drivers Rs30,000, and heavy vehicle drivers up to Rs50,000. This crackdown coincides with the formal launch of the city’s long-anticipated e-challan system, aimed at improving road safety and streamlining enforcement.
During a ceremony in Karachi, Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon announced the strict penalties for motorists driving without a valid license. The IG Sindh said that up Rs100,000 fines were initially considered. However, the provincial government instructed against such decision.
Meanwhile, the traffic police launched the second phase of their awareness campaign ahead of the upcoming e-challan system.
Under the newly introduced faceless enforcement system in Karachi, traffic violations will be detected using digital evidence such as photos and video footage.
Automated challans will be generated and sent directly to the violator’s registered home address via post.
Moreover, citizens will be able to view and manage their challan details through the official traffic police mobile app. Authorities have urged the public to strictly follow traffic rules to avoid hefty fines and unnecessary inconvenience.
