U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that gives Qatar full security guarantees from the United States. He announced that any future attack on Qatar will be treated as a direct threat to America’s peace and security.
This comes after Israel launched airstrikes on Qatar’s capital, Doha, on September 9. Israeli forces targeted senior Hamas leaders during a high-level meeting. According to Arab media, five key Hamas figures were present, including Khaled Meshaal, Khalil Al-Hayya, and Abu Marzouk. At the time of the attack, they were discussing Trump’s Gaza ceasefire proposal.
Hamas later released the names of Palestinians who died in the bombing. Reports also confirmed that one Qatari security officer was among the dead.
The executive order states that the U.S. may respond to any future attack on Qatar using diplomatic, economic, or military means. It also calls for action to protect the interests of both the U.S. and Qatar.
Following the bombing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met President Trump at the White House on September 29. During that meeting, Netanyahu called Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He expressed regret over the strike and apologized for violating Qatar’s sovereignty.
Netanyahu admitted the strike aimed to target Hamas leadership, not harm Qatar. He also expressed sorrow over the death of the Qatari security officer.
U.S. media reported that Netanyahu had informed Trump about the planned airstrike before it happened. However, the unexpected fallout forced Israel to soften its stance afterward.
Trump’s executive order now signals a shift in Washington’s approach. It shows clear support for Qatar and sends a strong warning to any nation considering hostile actions against it.
