Dhadak 2, the film directed by Shazia Iqbal was released in cinemas this August, where it was liked by a large number of fans and at the same time earned crores at the box office.
According to box office, Dhadak 2 failed to recover its budget despite generally positive critical and audience reviews for its performances and exploration of caste-based discrimination.
Along with Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri played the heroine in the film. After the film managed to do business in cinemas for some time, Netflix announced that in less than two months of its theatrical release, the film would be streamed on Netflix.
The film’s commercial failure was attributed to factors including strong competition from other major releases like Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha, poor marketing, and its remake status which limited its impact on audiences compared to the original Tamil film it was based on.
In the Hindustan Times review of the film, it is stated that although the film does carry a powerful message, it fumbles in storytelling. The film addresses caste, pressure, and the injustices of the system.
According to the review, when the film touches its subjects, it does so correctly, but due to its narrative and long runtime, it becomes weak, whereas it could have proven to be a hard-hitting social drama.
