Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has rolled out the second phase of the Green Tractor Scheme, under which 9,500 tractors will be distributed to farmers across the province.
The allotment process was conducted through a transparent draw. In a symbolic gesture, the chief minister personally called several successful farmers to congratulate them on securing tractors.
According to the Agriculture Department, the scheme aims to provide a total of 20,000 tractors in this phase.
Under the eligibility criteria, farmers who own seven acres or more can apply for tractors ranging from 75 to 125 horsepower. The provincial government is offering heavy subsidies to make the machinery affordable.
Farmers opting for high-powered models will receive a subsidy of Rs1 million, while medium-powered tractors will come with a Rs500,000 subsidy.
The initiative has drawn overwhelming interest from the farming community. Out of 734,000 applications received, nearly 282,000 were found eligible for the draw.
Officials also highlighted that almost 98 percent of applicants requested locally manufactured tractors, reflecting a significant boost in confidence towards domestic production.
