France has officially recognized the State of Palestine, becoming the latest country to support Palestinian statehood amid the ongoing war in Gaza. President Emmanuel Macron announced the decision at a high-level summit in New York, saying, “The time for peace has come.”
France was joined by Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra, and Monaco, who also declared their recognition at the same summit, co-hosted with Saudi Arabia. A day earlier, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal had also announced their official recognition of Palestine.
This wave of support adds to the growing international pressure for a two-state solution and a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. According to the latest figures, more than 150 countries around the world now recognize the State of Palestine.
