After the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, France, Belgium, Spain, and Monaco have also recognized Palestine as a state. However, President Macron said that Paris will not open an embassy in Palestine until there is a ceasefire in Gaza and all hostages are released.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has demanded Hamas to lay down arms. The Palestinian Authority welcomed French President Macron’s decision, calling it historic and courageous.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Monday urged all countries to follow several Western nations in recognizing the Palestinian state. Addressing a United Nations summit on the two-state solution on Monday, he said: “We call on all other countries to take such a historic step as well, which will effectively help advance the efforts to implement the two-state solution.”
According to details, French President Macron announced recognition of Palestine as a state at a United Nations conference. In his address, he declared the ongoing war in Gaza unjustifiable. The French President said: “We cannot wait any longer, and the time has come to end this war completely and to ensure the immediate release of the remaining 48 hostages held by Hamas.”
It is worth mentioning here that despite the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza and Israel’s attacks on Iran and other countries, no state has decided to sever relations with Israel.
Meanwhile, Pakistan along with other countries has welcomed the recognition of occupied Palestine as a state, terming the step as an expression of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians of Gaza.
