LAHORE — Authorities have declared three areas of Lahore “highly sensitive” for crimes against women after alarming figures showed thousands of domestic violence and abuse cases reported in less than a year.
Official data reveals that Nishtar Colony tops the list, recording 2,604 incidents of domestic violence in the past eight months. Factory Area follows with 2,452 cases, while Kahna ranks third with 2,070 complaints.
The reported incidents include physical and sexual violence, blackmail through photos and videos, inappropriate behaviour, and exploitation of women within their own homes, police officials said.
Statistics indicate that Lahore’s rate of domestic violence is higher than Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sheikhupura. According to the Virtual Women’s Police Station, more than 22,000 domestic violence cases have been registered in Lahore this year alone, highlighting the city’s growing crisis.
Police and Safe City authorities stressed the need for preventive measures and innovative tools such as the Women’s Safety App, alongside training sessions and awareness programmes, to bolster protection for women.
Officials believe that combining technology-driven monitoring with stricter enforcement can help reduce violence and create safer environments for women across Lahore.
