The federal government has decided to launch a modern and high-speed train service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, aimed at reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion.
An agreement to expedite the project was reached between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the Minister for Railways.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Interior and Railways Ministers on Monday, focusing on launching a fast train service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, it was agreed to quickly complete the railway project from Margalla Station (Islamabad) to Rawalpindi Saddar Station. The framework agreement for the project is expected to be finalized and signed next week.
According to the official statement, the train will cover the distance between Islamabad and Rawalpindi in just 20 minutes. Not only will the modern and high-speed train save time and fuel but also it will help reduce traffic pressure on the roads.
The Ministry of Railways will provide the track for the train, while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will manage the train service. There was also consensus on importing a modern train for the service.
On this occasion, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that launching a rail service between the twin cities would be an excellent public welfare initiative, enabling citizens to travel quickly and easily between the cities in about 20 minutes.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi added that this project reflects the Prime Minister’s vision for public relief, and upon its completion, thousands of citizens will benefit from a modern and high-quality transportation facility.
