LOS ANGELES: Hannah Einbinder, winner of the 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks, ended her acceptance speech with a pointed political statement, declaring “Go Birds, fuck ICE, and free Palestine.”
Her remarks came during the 77th Primetime Emmys ceremony, where host Nate Bargatze had introduced a speech-time limit: winners were allotted 45 seconds, with a $100,000 pledge to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America that would lose $1,000 for every second a speech went over time.
Einbinder’s speech slightly overran the limit. When she realised, she said, “I’ll pay the difference,” indicating she accepted responsibility for going past the time allotted.

Her pro-Palestinian message, coupled with criticism of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”), drew immediate attention online and in the media. The CBS television broadcast bleeped the expletive “fuck ICE,” but the full phrase was heard in live and uncut streams.
She also wore an Artists4Ceasefire pin to show her solidarity with Gaza. Backstage, she explained her remarks, saying that as someone who is Jewish, she felt a responsibility to distinguish between her own faith or identity and the policies of the Israeli state.
