The government has decided to use census and agricultural census data to assess the damages caused by the floods, as reported by national media on Sunday.
A report citing sources stated that Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has instructed the Bureau of Statistics to estimate the losses caused by floods in the country.
According to the report, it has been decided to use census and agricultural census data to prepare the final estimate of damages, while economic census data will also be used to identify destruction of infrastructure and businesses.
The report added that the data from the agricultural census will be used to analyze crop and livestock losses. Using available data and software, a survey of flood damages will be conducted.
During the recent economic census, buildings across the country were geo-tagged, which will help in estimating flood damages at the district, block, and village levels. This will also reveal the extent of damage to business centers, schools, colleges, universities, mosques, and other buildings, as suggested by the report.
